We are committed to providing accessible information about the responsibilities entrusted to the Office by the Constitution as well as other laws of the Republic of the Marshall Islands. The Office strives to enforce the Constitution and uphold the rule of law.

By way of background, the Office advises on legal matters referred by the Cabinet, the President or Ministers. The Office is also responsible for instituting, conducting or discontinuing any proceedings for an offense alleged to have been committed, and foreseeing to it that the laws are faithfully executed. Our attorneys also serve on a number of important task forces such as those on human trafficking and deportees.

Within this website, you will find details about the various divisions under our Office. The Office is comprised of a number of Divisions that help manage and focus on specific issues.

These Divisions include:

• The Criminal Division – oversees the prosecution of all criminal matters under the Criminal Code and laws of the Republic;

• The Civil Division – focuses on all civil litigation for and against the Republic includingreviewing and providing legal advice under the Attorney General to all Government Ministries and agencies;

• The Passport and Citizenship Division – oversees the security, administration, processing and issuance of all eligible Marshallese passports under the Passport Act of 2022;

• The Information Technology Division – oversees all services of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and other related matters;

The Office also provides legal support to statutorily created Divisions like the Division of
Immigration and Division of Labor. Both Divisions are accountable and report to the Attorney-
General. Additionally, the Office provides other essential services such as firearm registry,
registration of domestic and authorized foreign corporate registry.

We strive for transparency and accountability as we believe that an informed public is essential
